The journey of Masi Habibi, from knowing nothing about day trading options to becoming a guru on the topic was a short one. Habibi, founder of MasiTrades, had never traded an option before 2018, and by 2021 had her own YouTube, Instagram, and Discord accounts, teaching others the secrets of her own success. Unsatisfied in the corporate world, she started dabbling in trading and quickly discovered that she had a knack for it; “I never gave up,” Habibi says, despite the fact that she had no mentoring and was actively discouraged from participating in an arena that might charitably be described as a boys’ club. For the daughter of Afghani parents who fled to America when she was only three years old, a bit of old-school sexism was not going to stand in the way of her success.
In fact, that sexism became the motivation for her own forays into teaching others. “My passion has really been teaching and guiding clients along their journeys to financial self-sufficiency while inspiring young women to realise that there is more to life” Habibi says. At first “I felt awkward joining any Discord communities because I was a woman making more more than my male peers,” but the knowledge that she was helping to transform the lives of other women gave her the drive to overcome those feelings: “Once I got on YouTube and women started to learn from me how to break into such a male-dominated field, it motivated me even more.”
Of course, Habibi teaches both women and men, welcoming everyone who might otherwise have trouble finding a good mentor. It might seem difficult for anyone to have the guts to start trading today, because the market is so volatile, but she believes that it is all a matter of discipline. “This career,” she says, “is recession proof. So long as you’re ready to capitalize when the market makes a move, it doesn’t matter which direction it goes.”
In fact, as economic uncertainty looms over the horizon, it might be the perfect time for people to consider becoming day traders. Habibi is particularly skilled, and has some natural ability, but the story of MasiTrades is ultimately the story of someone who started out small and quickly built an empire, all amid a global pandemic. If she can do it, Habibi believes that her students can too. She has coached students who have grown accounts from as little as $1,000. “The great thing about trading options is you can trade and make the same, or an even greater return on investment starting out with less capital” and, as Habibi herself can attest, transform a life over the course of just a few years.
