Exclusive Interview with Artis O’Neal

Today we’d like to introduce you to Artis O’Neal.

It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?

Well I was raised in Blacksburg, S.C., and growing up my passion was basketball. Even though I’ve always had love for music, basketball was my baby. I went on to play some college some semi-pro but that’s as far it went. That’s when I decided to pursue my love for music. Just to take it back a bit, growing up, my family was heavily involved in Church. We attended a Southern Baptist Church and needless to say, the music was amazing, and that’s where my love for music comes from. I even played the drums in church on occasions and taught himself to produce music at an early age. So after playing ball in college, I attended music school in Arizona to sharpen my skill set. After that I spent time throughout the south in Atlanta and Miami, where I worked in some of the top studios (Velvet Basement Studios, South Beach Studios, Circle House Studios) and learned from some of today’s biggest names in the music industry. Now I reside in Las Vegas, NV where I picked up DJing and held three DJ residencies, two on the famous Las Vegas Strip. While being here in Vegas, I’ve gained a nice reputation on the local music scene. There’s a lot dope talent here and I’m so grateful to be apart of it.

I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?

Yeah there has been a lot of challenges but the hardest thing I’ve had to deal with is being away from my family. Growing up with a big but close knit family is blessing because there is always someone there who you know loves you unconditionally. Leaving my family to pursue my dreams is the biggest sacrifice I’ve made because this road can get lonely. Not having that person to comfort you, talk to you, encourage you, understand you, etc…can be tough. It’s literally the hardest thing I’ve done. Outside of that, I’ve been screwed over on deals, Songs and beats being stolen, and I’ve even been homeless a time or two. Even though those things are tough, I overcame them and they only made me stronger and smarter.

Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?

First off I’m a Music Artist and I make music for me and for people like me. I’m not specific to just one type of music or genre. I just make music based on how I’m feeling at the time or draw inspiration from my experiences. I also a Producer, SongWriter, and I’m a certified Audio Engineer. I have a diverse repertoire of musical styles that includes hip hop, RnB, alternative, pop, and electronic. I have produced for artists such as Ray J, Tank, and MMG but many other popular artist. I feel like being an artist myself helps a lot with making music for other artist because I can understand what they need and want. You know, a lot of times in a studio session there aren’t words for what the artist needs and wants and it can be frustrating and mess up the creative process. I feel like I’m able to keep that to a minimum.

What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?

I would say take a chance and get uncomfortable (there’s no reward without risk), keep it simple (don’t overthink it), and you truly get what you put in.

Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?

For me, success is my happiness. Everyday I wake up and I have the freedom to do exactly what I love to do and that makes me happy. I’m not rich, YET, I’m not famous, YET, but I’m happy with what I’m doing and the things to come.

What’s next for you?

Pursuing my career as an Music Artist. So far I’ve been behind the scenes producing and making music for other artist, which I will still do but now I feel it’s time for me to be on the front of things. I feel it’s time for me to tell my story and show my talent to the world. I just released my single “It’s Me Again” on 9/27. It’s streaming on all major platforms. This song really means a lot to me because it’s the first time I’ve really put my thoughts and beliefs out there for everyone to hear. So if you get a chance, go check it out. It has a nice up-tempo fun beat with a great message! I think you’ll like it.

Finally, how can people connect with you if they want to learn more?

I’m mainly on my Instagram which is @artis_oneal. Feel free to shoot me a DM or a comment. I can also be reached through email which artisonealmusic@gmail.com.
