SohoMuse, and Runway 7, the vertical fashion platform of New York Fashion Week, presented the lavish Runway Muse fashion competition, on February 10, 2022, featuring young fashion designers. The event was at Sony Hall in New York. The event was live-streamed and showcased in front of a live audience of fashion VIPs, influencers, press and buyers.
Five esteemed judges will critique the students’ two original designs (one sporty/streetwear and one edgy for nightlife): fashion designer Naeem Khan, who presented his S/S 2022 collection at Runway 7 in September 2021; writer, designer and pop bodybuilder Mickey Boardman; author and life coach Elliot Carlyle; actress and model Debbie Dickinson; and writer and fashion designer Joseph DeAcetis. The Venezuelan designer Francys Lorena Herrera was one of the participants.
“My inspiration for creating these garments comes from the desire to merge the lively and dynamic lifestyle of cosmopolitan cities in contrast with the peaceful elements of nature such as water, air and minerals. I wanted to give the athletic-leisure streetwear garment a result of functionality and comfort, but fun and pleasant at the same time. For the nightlife and life to the limit outfit, I challenged myself to create a look for a modern man who does not follow general standards, likes to break the rules, dares to enjoy life and lives without limits,” said Francys. Lorena Herrera.
The first prize winner will receive an original collection of 20 pieces; the first runner-up will receive a collection of 15 pieces; and the second runner-up will receive a collection of 10 pieces. Runway 7 will hold product development meetings with the winning designers and all designs will be produced by Runway 7.
It deserves a separate chapter as its participation in the Runway 7 NYFW Fashion Show and its recognition as a finalist in the national RunwayMuse competition are just two examples of its impact on the international fashion scene.
