Today we’d like to introduce you to Theotis Joe.
It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a hip hop artist and co-owner of D.I.R RECORDS which means Doing It Right records. The label was founded in February 2021. So far I have personally released eight singles in 2021. My other titles include singer, songwriter, producer, and book author. Outside of the label, I own two other businesses. One is my demolition company called First Place Contractors LLC. And the other one is Hope Asset recovery LLC. We help people find lost assets. Music has been a driving force in my life since childhood. From rapping and banging on tables in middle school to now owning the hottest record label in Philadelphia. In 2000 Myself and a high-school friend started a rap duo called Dirt Network. We performed countless shows across the US and in 2002-2004 we formed a live hip hop band that quickly went on to be one of the hottest hip hop bands in the Tri-state area performing at universities and nightclubs everywhere. The challenge was simply being able to gather all of the band members together for rehearsals and meetings but somehow it worked out. In 2010 I released a solo album titled After Hours which includes the hit single Streets of Philly. Another hot song from the album titled Rocket luv is featured in a 2017 movie called Days Of Power. Fast forward to 2021 D.I.R RECORDS is born. Although it’s been a roller coaster ride and everything hasn’t been all peaches and cream, I can truly say it’s been
I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?
The challenge that I had to overcome was not having enough money to fund my projects. You know that saying, (it takes money to make money) Well I quickly found out it’s true. I tried the whole no cost guerilla marketing thing. It worked to a certain point but ink for printing flyers, duplicating CDs, paying people to create websites and fuel for the car cost money. Therefore I had to work a full time job and learn to put money aside for my music. Saving money alone was a challenge because everyday life obstacles got in the way often. So in order to eliminate that obstacle I figured out how to create multiple streams of income so that would never be an issue again.
Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?
As far as music I specialize in songwriting in various genres and music production. I’m extremely strong when it comes to hip hop and singing choruses. Also my organization of producers has an unlimited database of music to meet any artist’s needs no matter the genre. If you need a hit, We can produce one for you. If you need scores or soundtrack music for your film, we got you covered. If you need video production we are connected. We can guide an aspiring artist in the right direction. If you are an artist that needs music distribution we can provide the outlet for you at a very affordable price. Through our distribution partners Whomag/ Sony Orchard we can provide radio play, interviews and a presence on TV. If you have a music video you’ll be in front of an audience of over 2 million subscribers. These things are just a fraction of what D.I.R and our partners can provide that no other company offers. I must say we have a strict selection process. You must have good music, you must own the rights to your music or be original and you must be willing to promote yourself heavily. If you contact me about distribution all of these things will be explained in detail.
What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?
For anyone who desires to find success in their life, I suggest you pick a project and focus on that one project before moving on to another and crush it. Be persistent and never give up.
Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?
Success is the progressive realization of a worthy idea. Success is waking up in the morning and placing my feet on the surface and saying to myself today is the day.
What’s next for you?
Through my record label, I will continue to release new music and strive to help other talented artists become successful.
Finally, how can people connect with you if they want to learn more?
