Meet Jackie JP Phillips

It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?

I am a serial Entrepreneur and Servant Leader. I am the Founder and Owner of Unheard Media LLC
Unheard TV
Unheard Radio
Unheard Recruiters

My journey started when I was a leader of a company that didn’t value people. I knew then that I had to do something different and after looking for another job I ran into my very first mentor and coach. He told me I was far too smart to work for anyone else and that seed has been growing for over 16 years now. I started out in the entertainment industry and over time noticed that coaching had become a bigger passion. I decided to focus on consulting in 2011 and there is no regret in that decision. Consulting provides the freedom of true creativity and I’m blessed to have the skills to do so.

Unheard is a really interesting name for a media company. It sounds like there’s an intention or mission behind it. How did you come up with that name?

There is definitely intention behind the name! I came up with the name because it really describes the people I service. Powerful people who are often Unheard for one reason or another. I have a mantra that says WE DON’T COMPLAIN…WE CREATE! I felt it was my responsibility to create platforms and opportunities to empower those who have ever been or felt Unheard.

Is launching a television network and radio station something you always wanted to do?

Full transparency, no not at all! This is all very recent for me, however I can look back at some of the things I’ve done that was preparing me to launch both a television network and radio station. I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve and these two ventures will allow me to do just that.

Is it true that you launched the first season of Unheard TV with show hosts who didn’t have any production or filming experience?

Yes that is true!!!! The first season of Unheard TV was written, produced, filmed, edited, and distributed by a group of folks with no prior experience….THE UNHEARD…yet they all had the desire to learn. I saw it as a great way to create and coach at the same time. I’m so proud of everyone! There is a lot of hard work that goes into a production on top of pushing pass your fears. I’m super proud!

What’s been the biggest challenge and biggest reward of cultivating talent in that way?

The biggest challenge has been getting folks to see that your mindset determines everything! The start of any new venture will require sweat equity, and some folks don’t understand the blessing in building a strong foundation. Talent is great, don’t get me wrong…but we have all seen some trulytalented people fail. To change things up you have to start from the inside out.
The biggest reward is watching the growth! I’ve seen people grow in their faith walk, mindset, confidence, and finances!

You consider yourself a Servant Leader. Can you tell us what that means?

For me it means that every layer of what I do is to serve the people who I encounter. Being a Servant Leader means that you push the agenda forward from the back while keeping an eye on the big picture. Servant Leadership means holding myself accountable no matter how difficult it may be. Servant Leadership means that I pour into others so they are empowered to serve.

Has the process of launching Unheard TV stretched you as a leader?

Absolutely YES! This process has stretched my faith and skill set more than any other venture in my career thus far. Remember we are all new to this, so I’m learning as well.

What can viewers expect to see on the channel? What types of shows do you have?
Viewer will see a bunch of passionate people sharing from their heart! You will see talk shows, music driven shows, faith based shows, and we have recently added a travel show and our very first youth show! We are going to be hosting more pitch parties in 2022 so stay connected to find out the details.

And you’re currently on Roku only, right? Will you be expanding to any other platforms in the future?

Yes we will be expanding to other platforms in the very near future! We are excited about it!

Your network is just a few months old, and you shared before the interview that you already have 18 expansion cities and countries on the horizon. What made you decide to expand so quickly?

I’m not sure I had much of a choice! This channel is driven by faith and beautiful relationships! We are blessed!

What’s the process for pitching a show idea? Are you always looking for new talent?

We have pitch parties that we host both virtual and in person to connect with talent! We are always looking to connect with creatives.

Are there any types of shows you’d like to produce in the future, that you haven’t received pitches for yet?

I would love to see some game shows, comedy, cooking shows, a drama series…really we are open to it all. For us it is about the culture fit, so come with a positive and productive mindset.
