Today we’d like to introduce you to Marquisha Eddington Williams.
It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?
I started off looking for a way to generate additional streams of income for my family. Little did I know, owning a company that helped others create recession proof tax offices would change my family’s life. In 2018, I left corporate America and began to pursue building tax preparation offices full time and in 2020 had my first million dollar year. Since then, I have made it my mission to educate, empower, and uplift others who were looking to do the same. I now run three successful brick and mortar locations in the Charlotte. NC area and have helped almost a hundred individuals earn six figures as tax office owners. As the NC Ambassador of the Association of Black Tax Professionals, I have learned an incredible amount of information about this industry. Helping others own their own recession proof tax office is truly my passion.
I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?
There are many obstacles I have had to face in order to climb the ranks in this industry. The biggest challenge of them all is having the mental capacity to be able to operate on a higher level. This is something many face on a day to day basis, but it is the ability to overcome this obstacle that has made me a better mentor, boss, and business woman. It is easy to dwell on the challenges faced in any industry, however, I like to think of those challenges as a test of faith and tenacity. Each challenge comes with a choice. That choice is to either dwell on the negative or use it as fuel for growth and development. I choose the latter of the two.
Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?
I coach and train others who want to create an additional stream of income by creating a business that is recession proof. The great thing about the work that I do is that I know what it is like to start this business with limited income and minimal supplies. I worked my way up with a computer from the thrift store and a closet size in room in my own home. I can relate to each obstacle these business owners will face and I am living proof that they can be overcome. Working with me is not like reading a guide or a manual, even though we have those available. You are learning from someone who is still very active in the industry and who is prepared for all challenges it brings.
What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?
Every day we wake up, we have a chance and a choice. We wake up with the ability to do whatever it is that our heart desires or nothing at all. While we have the chance to do something different we have to make the choice to act upon it. Once we have made the choice to change, we have to make sure that we are willing to continue to choose that choice on a daily basis. We have to be ready to outwork, outthink, and out maneuver our yesterday’s version of our self to be a better version of us today.
Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?
For some success means to obtain wealth, prosperity, or fame. Success is the ability to find what one’s true purpose is life is and to achieve that purpose continuously. Success is not something that can be achieved in one day because you are constantly redefining your mission in life and working on ways to achieve it. If I plant a seed today, the goal is essentially to ensure that tree bears fruit. However, as the world is constantly changing what I have to do in order to make sure I bear that fruit will change as well.
What’s next for you?
Forward progress. I am constantly looking for ways to redefine and revamp my program so that we can help as many individuals as possible. Over the course of the next five years, it is my mission to help create an abundant supply of six and seven figure tax office owners. This business has been around for forever and as long as we have a taxation system in place there will always be a need for honest, ethical, and reliable tax preparers. If we want to restore integrity and be able to properly educate tax payers on how the tax system works, we need more tax office owners who will help achieve that mission. We don’t plan on stopping until we have helped to find as many of those as possible.
