Today we’d like to introduce you to Tomika Jackson.
It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?
I am Tomika Jackson a journalist and entrepreneur who has over 15 years of experience in the media industry. I started my journey as a Morning Show Producer and Noon reporter. I had the honor of working in 3 Top 100 Markets and producing award winning morning shows that air locally on Fox, ABC, NBC, and CBS.
I eventually transitioned from the newsroom to doing “freelance” work which also gave me a better quality of life and time to focus on my family. Each new project that I was blessed to produce, host, or creatively direct was a major step towards my ultimate goal as a journalist. That goal was to create a platform that allowed me to freely share inspiring stories about Women of Faith who were impacting the world in amazing ways but oftentimes not given a platform to share those achievements. I’ve been on that journey for quite sometime now.
I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?
There is this saying that says “There Are No Chances Without Challenges” and the challenge normally comes before the chance. That has been my mantra for quite some time on this journey because success doesn’t come easy for sure and it requires hard work and perseverance coupled with Faith. When I stepped out of the newsroom, I had no idea how to get to the place that I had my heart set on in media and there weren’t many people in my life to teach me how to still get there as a Freelancer. On top of that I wasn’t making as much money as a freelancer so it was hard to create powerful and relevant content that could compete with other media outlets that had major machines backing their projects. So it was tough finding my way. But I found it and I worked it and challenged myself to learn more. Perfect More. Grow more. Be more. Do More. And to Believe in myself more and here I am with my own because I fought to overcome the challenges so that I could be ready to take the chance.
Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?
I help women get media exposure, shine on camera and become powerful spokespersons for their businesses and brands through coaching and mentorship. Many women feel uncomfortable sharing the role that their Faith has played in achieving some of the many successes that they have. What I do is help them share their stories creatively and objectively. I help them prepare for interviews and appearances by teaching them better ways to share information and content without using religious jargon. In other words, I make them comfortable and confident keeping the main thing, the main thing without feeling like they have compromised their Faith. Through my new TV show “Go Girls Rock” I also spotlight those stories of those women, giving them a platform to further grow their businesses and media presence. May I add that I do work with men all of the time as well so I don’t discriminate but I especially love to work with women.
What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?
My best advice to readers who desire to live a successful life is “work smarter not harder”. We live in a generation that pushes the idea that you have to “work harder” or “hustle harder” than the next person in order to rise to the top in your industry but my experience as an entrepreneur and career woman has taught me that is not necessarily true. While working hard matters, whether you are running your own business, leading a Fortune 500 company or raising a family, there are a lot of unsuccessful, unhappy, and impoverished hard working people in the world. Hard work for them is a constant drudgery in their lives. Yes having a good work ethic is absolutely essential to personal and professional success, but I personally believe that it must be coupled with “working smarter”. When you add the “working smarter” element to the equation it means to have some wisdom working in your life and intelligently utilizing that wisdom to achieve the same results in a more fulfilling way. It’s working with understanding. When I say understanding, I mean looking at the situation, assessing it, and then strategically constructing a plan to achieve more with less stress, in less time, and more efficiently. In application, that may mean delegating more, managing your time better, or even batching your work flow. When I learned how to work smarter at accomplishing the things I wanted to accomplish, I realized that I had room to enjoy life more.
Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?
The word success means fully walking in my purpose as a light and solution for the people that I am assigned to impact in life while experiencing the blessing that comes with that. That blessing has to be more than just prosperity though that is fruit of success. We need to be prosperous so that we can help society for the greater good of man and it takes resources to do that. Prosperity is not the only fruit of success, so is peace. Joy is a blessing that comes with it. So is love, and I could go on with the intangible blessings that indicate success. It’s relative to each person that’s why each individual must ask themselves what personal success looks like to them. My success in the realm of media may not look like Oprah’s but it can bring me the same result that she has according to my purpose so I’m good with how God has used me. God loves me. My family loves me. I love myself. I love people. I love what I’m doing to help people and that’s true success to me.
What’s next for you?
The first season of my new TV Show “Go Girls Rock” premieres March 3rd on The AIB Network at 8:30PM EST to over 2 Million households in the Metro- Atlanta area. I’m so happy that I get to share the amazing stories of so many Women of Faith with the world. More correspondent and hosting opportunities are lined up for me this year as well. I’m also working with some larger brands on media positioning and coaching in 2022 which will bring my business a new audience and opportunities. I’m excited to be able to help so many people, while helping myself, and getting blessed while doing it. It’s my dream place in life! I can’t even wait to see what’s next for me!
