In a world where perception drives opportunity, tailor and entrepreneur Manuel Martinez has built a brand rooted in power, polish, and purpose. His custom tailoring business isn’t just about fabric—it’s about how people feel when they wear it.
From Inspiration to Action
The foundations of his craft were built by studying some of the world’s greatest tailoring minds: Giacomo Trabalza, the renowned Hollywood tailor; Bill Fioravanti, who dressed elite figures in New York; and Lou Myles, one of Canada’s most iconic designers.
“They had a presence. Their work spoke volumes. That’s the look I wanted to master.”
He didn’t just admire them—he sought them out, built relationships, and learned directly under their guidance.
Building a Brand in the Eye of the Storm
Martinez launched his business in the 1980s, during one of Louisiana’s most difficult economic downturns. The oil bust devastated local industries, but he saw opportunity where others saw crisis.
“Even in a down economy, someone’s winning. I found them—and offered them something of value.”
Through sheer perseverance and strategic connections, he built a loyal following of influential clients—long before the term “influencer” existed.
From Rejection to Presidency
One of the most transformative experiences in Martinez’s journey came in 1982, when he was rejected from the prestigious Custom Tailors and Designers Association of America. He reapplied and was later accepted. In 1997, he became the organization’s President.
“To go from rejected to president… it was one of my proudest milestones.”
His work began gaining national traction, with profiles in The Robb Report, Cigar Aficionado, and The Wall Street Journal.
Brand Yourself Before You Sell
Martinez believes the way you dress is a direct reflection of your ambition.
“Dress not for the job you have—but the job you want.”
He urges young entrepreneurs to project confidence through appearance and enthusiasm. “When you look like you belong, doors open,” he says.
Mastering Balance and Faith
Martinez structures his days with discipline, beginning at 5:30 a.m. with gratitude, prayer, and clarity. He believes compartmentalization is the key to avoiding burnout—and staying creative.
During the pandemic, he pivoted fast, designing golf wear, hunting trousers, and outdoor attire to match the shift in client lifestyles.
Looking Ahead
Martinez is preparing the next generation—his daughter and son-in-law—to lead the business. With new offerings like field jackets, custom jeans, and polo shirts, his legacy is expanding, one stitch at a time.
